would i require test tag if i installed mains operate with dc hindmost up smoke/heat detectors in a 3 storey building.i will be renting the accomodation out.

If you are electrical system a new circuit to the smoke detectors consequently yes you need to Certificate and Notify underneath Part "P" of the building regs.It would be an offence not to do so.
